Sporting days

Sports were always encouraged at Bay House, and the variety of activities available was varied. High jump was my personal 'thing', thanks in no small way to Mr. Alan Parker, a sports teacher who was always ready to give up his spare time for the benefit of his pupils. But as well as athletics, the school had no shortage of rugby, football and other assorted teams. On this page we also go back to the days of Gosport Grammar School. If you have any old sports photos hidden away in the attic, I'd be very grateful for an e-mailed copy!

From the trophy cabinet...

Ian Hawkes sent me this, which is a team award for playing in the Fifth Form 1st 15 Rugby team – to his embarrassment handed out in Assembly!

The Amateur Athletic Association awards were quite popular in my time. It was sponsored by Walls Ice Cream, although the link between ice cream and athletic achievement may be considered a little strange by some people.

The photo gallery below shows sporting achievements at the Bay House and Gosport C.G.S. throughout the years. As usual the little arrows will take you to the next thumbnail, and clicking on a thumbnail brings up the full size picture with details below it. Remember those cold changing rooms and playing rugby on ground as hard as concrete? Bring back the memories...
