Obviously there are missing details here, but the folk on the left of the picture are walking towards the drive. The greenhouse looking bit is supposed to be the Cloisters. The buildings upper left were the stables. Where the three figures are in the right front, is where the little hedged gardens were, and the rest of the folk are on the front, south facing lawn.
Thanks to Sheila Watts (now Mountifield) for the picture and info.
Many thanks to Jeremy Riggs for supplying the photo.

The significance of the Alverbank was that it is right next door to the school. Twenty years ago its bar area was something of a magnet for the sixth formers, (and quite a few staff members as I recall). There were even rumours of an underground tunnel linking the two premises. I suppose as they are both such old buildings such a tunnel would not be completely unbelievable, but if it does exist we never found it. (Trust me, it was not through lack of trying!!!). Perhaps it linked straight into the staff room....

Not quite suitable for Pamela Anderson I admit, but the scene of many days tanning and lazing all the same.

The rear of the school buildings. Someone has built an extension and painted it to look like a lemon flavour 'fondant fancy' since my days. Where do these architects get their ideas?

She had the job of trying to teach 'A level' economics to a group of us boys who for the most part would have had trouble adding up their pocket money!!!
Just across the road from the school itself. I remember there being a carefully made small hole in the wall between the boys and the girls changing rooms. Not that I ever looked through it myself you understand...

Without the credit facilities of this valued retail outlet, most of the sixth form would have starved long before the end of term.
That old music centre lasted well in fairness to it. Anyone who didn't already have Meatloafs Bat out of Hell was probably saving up for it, in the sure and certain knowledge that the needle on this music centre would soon grind the grooves away so they would have to buy another copy anyway...
Demonstrated here by Colin, is to attempt to create strange optical effects by holding a piece of glass in front of a friends face. Andrew was the subject of this experiment, which like most of our experiments, failed miserably.

I won't embarrass an old friend by naming him, but this just goes to show that the true art of face painting began at sixth form parties.
This photo taken on the last day of the sixth form, from the stairs leading to the upper common room.
Quite what they were discussing I don't know (and I'm not sure I want to!).
Jeremy Riggs was the photographer.
One of our teachers, and the lady responsible for our introduction to the then unknown and futuristic world of computers. Had she not taken the time to teach us so well on the schools' Commodore PET, this photo of her changing her wet socks on a school trip on the Isle of Wight may never have made it to the internet!
On the occasion of the Sixth Form formal dance in 1981. Colin Baxter is in the centre at the back, and Amanda Poulton standing on his left. I'm afraid I can't remember the names of the other people - can anyone help?
Ninian was the subject of a staged 'kidnap' attempt by the outgoing sixth form when he was elected as head boy. A daring raid armed with fairy liquid bottles full of water...

Mr. Mansbridge struggles to pass on his knowledge of Physics against all the odds. His demonstrations were frequently sabotaged by the placing of small pieces of paper in the bottom of bulb holders so as to break the contact. He managed to retain his sense of humour, despite our best efforts!
Thanks to Suzanne Freebody (now Suzanne Christopher) for this photo of her 3rd year in 1976. Suzanne is sitting in the front row, far right.
Rosie Burnett, nee Kyte, sent this photo, taken on 25/5/79. She can identify Elaine, ? Carol Connolly, Rosie Kyte, Karen Vaggs, Lucia Brookes, Mr White, Debbie, Toni Gay, Julie Rodgers, ? and Sue Bell. I also think that's Lindsey Kirk in white on the far left.
Bob Mills sent this photo of his form teacher of 1972-73, who used to ride to work on a Triumph 500cc Chopper!
Marie Baxter was kind enough to send this photo. She names: Michael Heath, Sharon Tyler, Claudia Laughin, Mark Witherington, Katrina Glenn, Katherine Doyle, Charmaine Winter, Marie Baxter and Becky West.
Thanks to Adrian Hughes for this photo. He names Mike Lenn on the far left, Kevin Donnelly with no apparent trousers, and Jonathan Gregory on the far right. The other gentlemen are are bit of a mystery, unless you know different?
Dave Mack, Paul Maidment, Andy ?, Steve Fagin, Carl Galley, and the ladies at the front are Mavis Diaper, Angela Simpson, Sharon Osgood, Katie Ross, Susan Albray and Sandra Thake. It has just occured to me that I give my kids a row for not tucking their shirts in and not wearing their school ties....... I just hope they don't come across this photo!!!!! Photo from Rona Fryer
